My site is still under construction. I broke the blog posting mechanism while implementing some new features. I’ve also only been working on it about one day a week.
I suppose I had just as well come out and say it. You might already be suspicious. I uninstalled my instant messenger client. I think permanently. It’s been good. I felt really dumb talking to people while mostly preoccupied anyway. Or spending an hour discussing twenty minutes worth of material. Call me. Or e-mail me.
I recently discovered an antiquated device that’s still quite useful. It’s called a radio. Sort of like television, but without the picture. There’s actually one built into my radio-alarm clock. Imagine that. It comes in handy when I want to listen to Rush Limbaugh, since don’t have an i-pod or 24/7 membership.

About that whole site thing? Kinda didn’t happen. I made a lot of progress though. I figured since there are no grades at stake, a well-made site late would be better than a cop-out on time. I’ll keep you posted.

Current Music: When It’s Sleepy Down South (By Satchmo. Performed by Arturo Sandoval et al)
I am setting a goal of having my website up by Friday 3 June. That means:
- my blog will be there instead of here
- there will be no (intentionally) dead links
- none of the pages linked to will be without real content
- I will make an alpha release of jackalBlog on SourceForge under the GPL
- everything (CSS, XHTML, RSS) will be validated, strict if applicable
I decided to make all of my pages fully dynamic. *All* of the text of *every* page will be read from MySQL tables and stuffed into appropriate XHTML tags by `smart’ PHP code. I also need to add RSS , pinging, and haloscan support to the blogging code. At some point I’d like to redesign the posting backend (make it cuspier) and adapt it to the task changing page content and creating pages on-the-fly. But that can wait until after I get the site up, as no one sees such things but me.
Boring post, but it’s an update anyway.

After a lot of work, I finally got my website to look decent in IE for Windows (it was working in everything else before, including IE for Mac.) I haven’t uploaded the changes yet so it still looks bad, but I will do so when I get my template system and an alpha release of my blog code running. In English that means my website should be coming soon. Finals week is busy so it may be a couple weeks plus.
In other news, Ashley and I will be leaving for Colorado next Saturday. We should be getting back a week from tomorrow. Unfortunately, my car’s alternator died today. Yay for AAA. It seems to be a relatively cheap part to replace, and something I can do my self. Plus the parts store has it in stock so I can probably do it tomorrow after church. Yay for Jen driving this week.
I’ll post in a couple days about the chaos of packing to go home while taking finals, and a reflection of my spiritual journey at APU. But for now, these are a few of my favourite things:

So I’ve basically spent the entire day in libraries, working on an eight-pager due tomorrow. And I have discovered a profound truth: libraries promote focus (to an extent) and sanity. If I try to work on a paper in my dorm like I am now (one library closed at 2100, the other at 0100,) I end up wasting time on other things like I am now, or getting frustrated. But in the libraries, I am able to focus (to an extent) for hours on end. Unfortunately, I cannot completely focus, because I get distracted by my sources and read more than necessary, resulting in a lack of pages to show for my hours in the library. Anyone else have this issue? Any solutions? Comments or trackbacks appreciated. ;)

Lately I’ve been making some changes to my blog, partially because it really needs help, and partially in anticipation of a new blog. I plan to encorporate some of the trendy new features of blogging into it, like permalinks; comments; trackbacks; and tagged links, posts, and images. I might even pretend I am capable of using the English language properly—with capitalisation, proper spelling and grammar, fewer ellipses, and legitimate proofreading. I will also try (no promises) to post more frequently and make it more interesting. All this while maintaining strict xhtml and css compliance and cross-browser compatability. A tall order, but the future of my boring little blog is bright.

The Sunday Post
Wisdom of the Day: oversleeping *will* make one late.
God is so faithful. just when we think we’re forgotten, He blesses us. The Knowledge of God is such a sweet fragrance…it’s expensive, but so precious. it doesn’t come from the Bible. through it, maybe, and with it. I don’t want to know about God…I just want to know Him. unlike cologne you can never put on too much. it doesn’t cover up other smells, it burns them away. so subtly sweet, like soft heavenly music. mmm…

okay… apologising in advance for the rantage…
GRR. i’m really mad. i hate it when the school puts other people in front of their students. after riding to the other campus, i found a lovely note on my car saying
you have to leave your car here, there’s some events this weekend, so parking anywhere remotely close to the dorms is prohibited friday and saturday. and oh, by the way, we only give you a lift to the parking lot after dark, so if you need your car in the day you gotta hoof it.
Love, Campus Safety
my errand was made futile, and the bus had left, so i walked back only to discover:
/caf in the den/!!! the only thing worse than paying $7.50 for cafeteria food is paying $7.50 for leftover cafeteria food out of a chafing dish on styrofoam with plastic utensils. yummy. oh, and on the weekends they stop serving dinner at 6:30, so by the time i went to get dessert, that was gone. i can put up with caf in the den maybe a couple times a semester, but man… it seems like they’re doing it almost every weekend. lotta people getting married in the spring i guess.
i’m pretty sure that even ridiculously expensive colleges like apu can’t survive on tuition alone… it’s the alums that give the big bucks and donate buildings and such. so let’s just sweep the students under the rug a moment so we can host weddings for the poor alums (rich alums would get married someplace nicer) that can’t give us any money anyway and forget about the fact that there wouldn’t be any university or any alums without students who like things like good parking and decent food. well the new asb president has promised change. perhaps i will write her a letter…
